Saturday morning I woke up approx at 8:30. Bath, breakfast... At 9:20 I was already standing on the trolleybus stop where I supposed to meet Alla. While standing in queue in Stockman buying some beers and juice, we met Ansis and Zāne. James and Inese we met already on the bus station. At 9:55 we left Riga for 3.5 h of sitting in bus until we arrived to Valka (we had one stop for several minutes to go out for a smoke in Valmiera). After some minutes we got to this small town on the border with Estonia Chris arrived on his small green VW Beetle. As far as we were six and everyone couldn't fit in the car we decided that girls are transported first, while me, James and Ansis go to Maxima and by some bread for everyone. In some 30 minutes Chris was back after us and soon we arrived to the BeetleFarm, where i haven't been since last big party in November. In some minutes James started doing his magic movements which in the end had to lead to something delicious (and which actually did). Of course, it was quite difficult to be patient knowing that in some (huh!) hours we'll taste real wild boar and some other dishes cooked by James in the real English cuisine style (as he told), but beer helped us a lot in the process of expectation.
While waiting we were proposed by Chris and Inga to go with them to Estonian part of Valka (which actually is called Valga on that side) to do some shopping. It was interesting experience for me, 'cause i never went abroad after our countries entered Schengen zone less than two months ago. And another thing was that from four of us only Chris had a passport with him. But we didn't need it. We recognized that we're already in Estonia by old customs building which wasn't removed yet, and by inscriptions in Estonian all around. In two minutes after we entered Estonia we were already in the shop searching for the stuff we needed to buy. It was a bit quite funny searching some things which we didn't know the name for in Estonian. Butter we recognized by it's wrapping. It was a bit more difficult with cream not to mix it up with sour cream, but anyway we recognized it by the percentage of fat (I've never seen 10% sour cream). After spending 15 minutes in Estonia we returned back to Latvia and soon we've been sitting again in the warm kitchen of BeetleFarm.
First dish was served was English potage with vegetables. Huh! It was really good and made our stomaches be a bit more patient while waiting for the main meal. But the problem is that though wild boar is sort of familiar to usual pig it takes twice longer time to cook it (if not even more). Huh! Waiting was difficult, but finally we got some fried vegetables on our plates and a piece of wild boar's meat each. Brilliant! Never tried wild boar before! Tastes smth like pig, but the meat is a bit harder (though not as hard meat of moose i've tried once in Norway). Of course, same as majority of other ppl i couldn't miss a possibility to get some more of "forest pig" as Latvians call this animal. After some time we finished with the main meal we continued with desert: ice-cream with sort of apple pie just brought from the oven. Mm! Never tried anything like this! Though it was burned a bit, it was still fantastic! I couldn't even imagine before that these two king of sweet stuff can be related into one desert. Just try it if you never did! But be sure that the pie is really fresh and warm, other way you won't feel the taste i'm talking about. =)
After dinner was finished we knew that neighbors have invited all of us to go to their sauna, but as far as i didn't know about it in advance i was not geared up for it (though that was not a problem to get a towel), so, i stayed in the kitchen with some other ppl which didn't go to sauna, and continued evening with watching some english comedy projected to the blanket cover =)
After we finished 6 series most of us felt quite tired already and we started preparing for a sleep. Me and Alla seemed to be the most lucky to get a sofa in the kitchen - the warmest place in all the house.
For some time i had a problem to get asleep, but when this problem was finally solved, still i was not lucky enough to be waken up in the early morning by Bruno, which also was sleeping in our room and suddenly decided that it wants to get out. When i opened the door it already disappeared in direction of the room where it's owner was sleeping. But anyway, as soon as i got back into my sleeping bag, Bruno started barking again outside the door, but i felt already too tired to react on it.
Next time i woke up it was already 11:00. After me and Alla helped Chris with washing the dishes my stomach reminded me that it has got used to have smth like breakfast in the mornings and breakfast was actually planned and again in so-called English style. But stomach still had to wait for some time, because James was still sleeping. Approx at 12:30 we started filling our mouths with fried ham, sausages, omelette etc. In the end we had some similar desert to the one we had last evening: ice-cream with some Estonian (at least it was bought in Estonia) apple and strawberry "pie" which if i'm not wrong was called "strudel" or smth like this.
After we finished with breakfast we decided that we take the train to Riga at 17:35 which goes from Lugaži, and we still had some time before we had to leave, which we spent for talks about nothing... Erm... I mean, almost nothing left in my mind what we were talking about =)
At 17:00 we were sitting already in Pēteris' car (which seems to be quite roomy to fit six of us which were going by train + driver... though one person was still going in a luggage rack =) ).
Going home was a bit boring. I got asleep for some 30 minutes or so, but after that i couldn't repeat this trick again. I was sorry i didn't take any book with me to read, and was counting the time is left till we arrive to Riga. At 21:00 i was already sitting at home, having usual dinner, checking mails and reading blogs. Thanks everyone for the great weekend! =)
